Researcher in mathematical modelling of hub molecules
The position
A temporary position as Researcher in mathematical modelling of hub molecules is available within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSCA-DN) network HubMOL. The position is for a period of two years and three months. It will be affiliated with the Bioinformatics and Systems Biology Group at The Department of Arctic and Marine Biology at UiT. The candidate will be enrolled in the Ph.D. program at the faculty. The research project will be on mathematical modelling approaches targeting mitochondrial metabolism of hub molecules with focus on metabolic flux analysis.
The workplace is at UiT in Tromsø.
The position's field of Research
The main task of the project will be the reconstruction of models of mitochondrial biochemistry with strong focus on transport and dynamics of hub molecules and related post translational modifications and the development of new approaches for metabolic flux analyses to unravel the impact of changes in hub molecules on protein modification dynamics.
Qualifications
Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSCA-DN) education program enrollment requirements:
- The candidate must not have completed a PhD.
- The candidate must not have lived, studied or worked for more than12 months in Norway within the last 36 months.
- The candidate should describe his/her motivation to join the project and how his/her prior experience will help to develop the project.
- The position requires to spend several month in other research institutions within the network.
Required qualifications:
- Successfully completed a master in biochemistry, biophysics, or mathematical biology or similar qualification.
- Strong background in mathematics as well as programming experience in Python.
- Good understanding of biochemistry.
- Documented good written and oral proficiency in English language.
- We are looking for a colleague with excellent cooperation skills, and a positive attitude towards collaborative research, education and outreach. The successful candidate must have ambitions for a Ph.D. and be willing to get involved in the ongoing development of their department and the university as a whole.
Additional desirable qualifications, knowledge and experience:
- experience in the use of advanced AI models
- working experience in mathematical modelling of biological pathways beyond the master, especially metabolic flux analysis -
- experience in the interpretation of metabolomics mass spectrometry data

The remuneration for Researcher is in accordance with the State salary scale code 1108, with a gross annual salary ranging from NOK 540.000,- to 590.000,- in a 100 % position.
