About the role

SLB is looking for a Data Scientist - Industrial Data & Analytics to join the Digital Engineering team within the Kristiansand Rig Equipment organization.

The role operates at the intersection of offshore drilling operations, industrial data platforms, cloud technology, and advanced analytics.

The position has a strong data-engineering and industrial-integration component.

You will integrate, contextualize, and structure equipment and operational data in Cognite Data Fusion (CDF), then enable analytics and optimization use cases that improve operational performance.

The role is suited to an experienced candidate, while strong junior applicants with relevant skills and potential are also encouraged to apply.

About you

You are a hands-on and solution-oriented data professional who is comfortable working with complex industrial systems and imperfect real-world data.

You combine sound engineering practices with strong data intuition and can turn operational needs into structured, scalable, and usable data assets and services.

Main responsibilities

  • Translate business, client, and operational needs into clear data, model, and solution requirements.

  • Design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines that ingest equipment and operational data into Cognite Data Fusion and associated cloud services.

  • Model, contextualize, and structure industrial data so it can be reliably used by analytics, applications, and engineering workflows.

  • Ensure data quality, traceability, reliability, security, and scalability across the data lifecycle.

  • Prepare and expose data for analytical and optimization use cases, including equipment-performance monitoring, anomaly detection, and operational optimization.

  • Develop, evaluate, and operationalize analytical methods and models where appropriate to the use case.

  • Collaborate with domain experts to identify valuable use cases and translate complex operational challenges into practical data solutions.

  • Develop and integrate APIs, services, and software components needed to make data and analytical results accessible to users and applications.

  • Contribute to architecture, coding standards, testing, documentation, deployment practices, and lifecycle support for industrial data solutions.

  • Work closely with software developers, engineers, simulator teams, product stakeholders, and operational specialists.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in data science, computer science, software engineering, engineering, applied mathematics, or a related discipline.

  • Relevant practical experience may also be considered.

  • Experience with data engineering, data science, or a combined full-stack data profile.

  • Expected depth of experience will be adapted for junior and experienced applicants.

  • Strong programming skills, preferably in Python, and the ability to develop production-quality data solutions.

  • Experience building data pipelines and working with cloud-based data environments.

  • Understanding of data modeling, transformation, contextualization, testing, and data-quality practices.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with both technical specialists and domain experts.

  • Good written and spoken English.

We can offer

  • An international working environment and career opportunities throughout the entire SLB system.

  • A friendly work environment where personal development and learning is encouraged.

  • Work with industrial data generated by complex equipment and offshore drilling operations.

  • Shape data infrastructure and analytical services from source integration through operational use.

  • Collaborate with software, engineering, simulation, product, and operational specialists.

  • Take on responsibility and development opportunities matched to your experience level.

  • Great colleagues from all around the world.

  • Good working environment.

  • Competitive salary and benefits.

Interested?

Please apply for this position as soon as possible.

Application should include resume, motivational letter, and grades/diplomas from your education.
