Can you get a robot to navigate a fish pen with no GPS, poor visibility, fish all around it, and a net wall that moves with the current? Remora Robotics is looking for a senior engineer to strengthen the team developing autonomy for our fleet of underwater robots.

About the role
At Remora Robotics, we build autonomous underwater robots operating at commercial scale in one of the world's most demanding industries -- aquaculture. Our robots continuously clean and inspect fish farm nets, combining robotics, autonomy, AI, computer vision, and real-world operations into one integrated platform.

We are now taking major steps forward in autonomy and computer vision, and we're looking for an experienced engineer to join us.

You will join a small autonomy team where your experience will be valued and your input will help shape how we build things. The problems are real and unsolved, and the solutions are tested at sea, not just in simulation. You will work closely with the mechanical and electronics teams, and contribute to the backend systems we use to monitor and operate the fleet.

What you will work on
  • Computer vision in challenging underwater conditions: visual odometry, mapping, and object detection and tracking.

  • State estimation and navigation based on sensor fusion of camera, pressure sensor and IMU.

  • Planning dynamic motion patterns in a constantly changing environment.

  • Control systems for steering and maneuvering the robots.

  • Taking solutions from prototype to stable operation across an entire fleet, including testing, logging, debugging and field updates.

We are looking for someone who
  • Has several years of hands-on experience with computer vision, and is confident applying it to real-world problems.

  • Has experience with one or more of: state estimation, sensor fusion, autonomy or control. You don't need to be an expert in all of them, but you're comfortable working across these areas.

  • Has strong programming skills, preferably in C++ and Python, and has worked with ROS 2, ArduPilot or a similar framework.

  • Has taken algorithms from development to systems in real-world operation, and knows what happens when reality doesn't behave like the simulator.

  • Is self-driven and comfortable working independently -- you figure things out, take ownership of your own work and enjoy delivering.

  • Has a degree in robotics, cybernetics, computer science, electrical engineering or a related field.

It's a plus if you have experience with
  • Underwater or field robotics

  • SLAM

  • Backend development, especially systems for monitoring and controlling robot fleets.

We offer
  • An important role in a small, skilled team where you get to own your solutions from idea to operation at sea.

  • Work on autonomous robots operating in the real world, with all the fun challenges that brings.

  • A company with strong momentum, ambitious goals and global potential.

  • Office in Stavanger with easy access to our test facilities. We prefer on-site work, but remote is possible for the right candidate.

  • English as a working language -- Norwegian is an advantage but not required.
